THE MISSION IN ACTION AT WESTMINSTER PLACE “WP Upfront” Resident Newsletter PEOPLE MAKING MORE POSSIBLE Many of us remember fondly when we received important information via a physical newspaper. WP Upfront is a monthly newsletter with stories and photos that represent the wide variety of interests, cultures, and backgrounds on campus; provide updates about campus projects and events; and enable residents to stay on top of information that is important to them. And beyond conveying news, WP Upfront seeks to harness the palpable energy in the community and be a strong voice for residents. Ed Welch, Community Discussion Group Leader Ed Welch helped launch Community Discussion Groups during COVID. These monthly events (with summer breaks) give residents an opportunity to become better acquainted. Each dis cussion opens with participant introductions. Then topics vary from the serious, such as estate planning, to the silly, where residents tell both true and false stories about themselves and others guess which is which. Typically 40–60 people enjoy each session. Woman’s Board The Woman’s Board pledged $150,000 over two years for the Elliott Chapel Renovation Project—especially fitting since the Board helped fund the Chapel’s construction in 1955. This was just one of many financial gifts, including support for seminarians’ wages; libraries; the Employee Appreciation Fund; music; art therapy gardens; and so much more. But the Board’s greatest service to the community isn’t monetary— it’s the caring, personal interactions they share with residents. Holly Clay is the third generation of her family to reside at Westminster Place. Holly started the Garden Committee and now serves on the Welcome Committee. Her husband George has served on the Resident Advisory, Finance, and Technology Committees and sings in the choir. The Clays say their involvement is a great way to meet neighbors and staff and have input on important community decisions.
