A LEGACY IN EVERY NOTE AND EVERY PERFORMANCE Lake Forest Place There’s a saying that “music is good for the soul.” If that is true, the souls at Lake Forest Place are thriving because music has an elevated vibe at the community these days. That is due in large part to the generosity of people who have donated to the Geneva Foundation in memory of their loved ones. A resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, donated $160,000 to purchase a magnificent Steinway piano in memory of her beloved mother—an accomplished pianist. The donor—a gifted musician in her own right—is connected to some of the outstanding instrumentalists from the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and other notable friends. As a result, several of these individuals have visited the community, excited not only to perform for a new audience but also to experience the finest piano they have ever played. In turn, Lake Forest Place residents are enjoying world-class concerts in their own community. At about the same time, resident Mary Deboer decided to fund a choir in memory of her friend Joy Yates, and the Joyful Noise Choir was born. While the community has had other choirs in the past, none truly gelled like this group. With Mary Deboer’s generosity covering a professional choir leader, another resident, Mary Knight, made a separate donation that supports the choir and funds supplies like special accessories for the holidays. With these generous donations music truly is in the air—and in the hearts—of Lake Forest Place. DOING FOR Renowned pianist Fred Moyer is among the musicians who have performed on Lake Forest Place’s donor-funded Steinway piano. Together with the Joyful Noise Choir, these musical experiences bring residents together and enrich community life.
