THE MISSION IN ACTION AT LAKE FOREST PLACE Fitness and Wellness PEOPLE MAKING MORE POSSIBLE Nine new group programs—including unique offerings like LaBlast and Sound Meditation—are attracting more residents to activities that promote social, cognitive, and physical engagement. Expanded personal training services meet residents where they are with customized experiences. Add in upgraded resistance equipment, a new bocce ball court, and expanded healthy dining options, and residents have countless opportunities to pursue their best fitness and wellness. Kaden Gross, Lake Forest High School Student and Volunteer When Kaden Gross brings his guitar into skilled nursing rooms each Sunday, he also brings companionship. These ‘private concerts’ have built Kaden’s confidence in performing. They also are extraordinarily meaningful, with one resident telling Kaden that his visit “felt like having a son for the day.” Recognizing the power of his visits, Kaden is recruiting other musician volunteers to reach more people and foster new connections. Memory Care Initiatives Memory care residents receive loving attention to their physical health needs and so much more. They experience creative therapies designed to engage, soothe, and support their unique needs. A music therapist’s weekly visits help residents tap into tunes and lyrics stored in long-ago memories. Arts and crafts support residents’ manual abilities and hand-eye coordination. Throughout these activities, the focus is on creating joy while building confidence, emotional expression, and physical dexterity. Many of our Lake Forest Place residents have interesting backstories, having had notable careers or fascinating personal experiences. Channeling her inner TV host, Marge Howard shares these stories in a monthly episode of This Is Your Life. The program can be viewed live or on an internal TV channel and is a great way for neighbors to really get to know each other.
